President of Beirut Bar Association Melhem Khalaf said from outside Roumieh prison that the next cabinet must put the human being first, adding that “the suffering we have witnessed today is inacceptable and I call on all the officials to make similar visits.”
He stressed the need for a national plan to resolve these issues, revealing that anyone who needs a lawyer will be assigned a lawyer. He also emphasized the need to hasten the trials that are the detainees’ right.
He noted that the visit of 700 attorneys to prisons across Lebanon took place in a cooperative and positive way, adding that the security forces maintain security and other matters.
In the same context, Khalaf revealed that he met with Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir, stating that he saw that al-Assir is in good health.
