Mikati: We trust LAF in implementing required duties
Lebanese PM Najib Mikati met on Tuesday with Army Chief General Jean Qahwaji and discussed the security situation and the measures taken by the LAF in several Lebanese regions.

During the meeting, Mikati reiterated the political authorities’ confidence in the military institution, stressing that questioning the Army’s actions does not only offend the military institution, but it also offends the nation and the people. He noted that, when the Army adopts wisdom in dealing with security incidents, it should not be considered as weakness and hesitation.

“We have complete confidence in the Lebanese Army when implementing the required duties, and every mistake that occurs must be resolved within the military institution and by the competent judiciary”, Mikati stated.

The PM confirmed that the cabinet is proceeding with the draft law-program aiming at reinforcing the Army’s equipment and increasing its potential under a 5-year project costing 1.6 billion dollars.

Mikati had earlier met with the general director of the Lebanese Internal Security, Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi, and the US ambassador to Lebanon Mora Connelly.
