Harb: we will propose a draft law based on smaller districts
MP Boutros Harb said on Tuesday that it has been agreed upon during the meeting of the Bkerke committee to work jointly on passing the electoral law based on smaller districts only to be replaced by the proportional representation law should it fail to be passed.

Harb relayed March 14's shock when March 8's Christian parties accepted the proportionality law which reduces the effectiveness of the Christians' votes.

During a press conference, Harb stressed that the proportionality law should not be imposed through "political intimidation and blackmail," adding that "the 60's law is not an option."

"March 14, mainly with its center-party the Future Bloc and in collaboration with MP Walid Jumblatt has initiated meetings to reach consensus on the smaller districts law," pointing that these forces are working on passing this law in the Parliament, Harb concluded.
