Free Syrian Army forces move their leadership from Turkey

After settling in Turkey for more than a year, the Free Syrian Army forces mentioned that they will be moving their central leadership to "liberated areas" inside Syria.

In a video posted online, the commander of the Free Syrian Army Group Riad Assaad addressed the Syrian people saying: "after successful arrangements to secure the liberated areas to start liberating Damascus, the army command announces to you that the Free Syrian Army entered the liberated areas."

Rebel fighters trying to oust President Bashar al-Assad shot down a fighter jet as it flew over the northern Syrian town of Atarib in Idlib province on Saturday, a witness said.

The witness, an independent journalist who asked to remain anonymous, said rebel fighters were attacking a military base near the town when the jet flew over and rebels shot it down with anti-aircraft guns.

Heavy artillery shelling echoed across Aleppo on Saturday morning as pro-regime troops launched a campaign of raids in Deraa where protests kicked off, AFP quoted a non-governmental organization as saying.

In turn, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the neighborhoods of al-Katerji, al-Shaar, al-Skhour, Hanano, al-Arkoub and al-Marjeh were subject to heavy shelling on Saturday dawn.

142 people were killed in violence on Friday, including 88 civilians, 32 soldiers and 22 rebels.

A high-ranked French official announced on Saturday that while France and its partners are still considering the establishment of a no-fly zone over Syria, “this project that requires a UNSC resolution is currently not applicable.”

“We are holding talks with all our partners, Turks, Americans, British and others; but we have not yet taken a political decision to establish a no-fly zone in the near future”, he said.
