Mukhtars’ current situation and role in maintaining civil peace
The United Nations Development Program launched a project to improve civil peace in Lebanon, under the sponsorship of Interior and Municipalities Minister Marwan Charbel.

The project will study “the situation of the Mukhtars and their role in maintaining civil peace”, and will shed the light on their role in reconciliations and finding solutions for conflicts.
In this context, the head of the study, Professor Najwa Bassil said that the Mukhtar’s law issued on 1984 needs amendments to be consistent with the current situation, especially with the change of the people’s view to the Mukhtar in the social life and the decline of his role for the interest of the Mayor.
