Jbeil’s Diocese to LBCI: Bishop Aoun warned monk Naji Salloum

The Maronite Diocese of Jbeil told LBCI on Thursday that Bishop Michel Aoun summoned monk Naji Salloum and warned him for the sermon he gave at the Saint Ilige Church in Mayfouk regarding the recent visit of Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun to Jbeil.

In the details, the Diocese announced that Bishop Aoun told Salloum that his behavior “is contradictory to the line of Pope Benedict XVI, Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai and the Church.”

Salloum had delivered a controversial hate speech targeting MP Aoun. He even went so far as to dub the latter as the "anti-Christ" within church walls.

While on a trip to Jbeil at the end of September, Aoun cancelled his previously planned visit to Our Lady of Ilige in Mayfouk.

The decision was preceded by a gathering of Lebanese Forces supporters to prevent Aoun from visiting the cemeteries of the Lebanese Forces’ martyrs.
