REPORT: Oum Kalthoum in Beit Hanina, Jerusalem

The Israeli Mayor of Jerusalem named a street after the late Egyptian singer Oum Kalthoum, in an attempt to make peace with the Palestinians of Beit Hanina in Jerusalem.

However, the Mayor did not know that even the use of the name of Oum Kalthoum will not raise the enthusiasm of the residents who complain from the lack of services offered by the municipality compared to the taxes imposed. Consequently, a small number of people attended the inauguration ceremony, considering that this ceremony is just an attempt to improve the image of the occupation.

To complete the musical atmosphere, an Israeli singer performed a song in Arabic before a small attendance and indifferent glances from balconies and windows.
