Bahrain Court sentences man to prison for Twitter comments

Lawyers said on Thursday that the Bahraini Criminal Court sentenced a Bahraini citizen for a 6-months imprisonment period after insulting the King on his twitter account.

The convicted is one of four men charged with defaming the King on social media platforms.

Verdicts will be issued for the other 3 persons on the 5th of November.

Lawyers mentioned that the accused denied in a previous session before the court the aforementioned charge.

It is worth mentioning that on the 17th of October 2012, Bahrain's public prosecution office had questioned four defendants and charged them with the "crime of insulting the king on their personal Twitter accounts."
