REPORT: Pottery in Lebanon subject to extinction

As all the other handcrafts, pottery which has a special place in Lebanon's history and heritage with roots that go back to the Phoenician era, has become subject to extinction, with the new generation showing little interest and patience in acquiring such a craft.

In this context, pottery maker George Arayro said that this craft is a heritage that requires hard work and enough time to manufacture. He noted that pottery in Lebanon has been on a sharp decline since ten years with decrease in demand.

Arayro pointed that nowadays, the majority of the people prefer pots made out of modern materials for culinary use. "The world shifted towards greater development, and the people forgot all about traditional pottery," he said.
