UN denies having allowed Damascus to attack rebels in Golan Heights

The United Nations denied again Friday having given Damascus the permission to launch a military operation against opposition fighters in the Golan Heights.

“We regard it as a serious matter that Syrian authorities would claim that a U.N. senior official would approve activities in violation of Security Council resolutions,” UN peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous said in a letter yesterday to Syria’s UN ambassador.

Ladsous called on the Syrian army to stop “incursions” into the Golan Heights’ demilitarized zone.
