REPORT: Syrian war: Tehran meeting held in response to Doha meeting

Iran has always reiterated its support for a Syrian national dialogue, hoping that a solution for the Syrian crisis will be reached. In this context, Tehran gathered Syrian government officials and representatives of ethnic, political, minority, and opposition groups in a meeting committed to reach a political solution for the crisis.            

In this regard, the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi accused some parties of hindering the dialogue between Syrian parties, noting that a political solution, negotiations and an immediate cease-fire are the most important things while armament violates international laws. Salehi pointed that arming Syrian groups will complicate the situation and spark violence in the region.            

Given that the attendees endorsed the meeting’s principles and adopted the national initiatives; however, many consider that the formation of the opposition national coalition under an international support is no cause for optimism.                  

Despite the obvious concern and the efforts deployed in order to find practical solutions for the Syrian crisis, Iran closely monitors the situation, as the importance of Damascus is equal to everyone’s awareness of the fact that Tehran remains an influential party in the scenarios to deal with the situation.
