REPORT: Spinneys employees protest, syndicate council elected

The constituent body of Spinneys syndicate turned into a Syndicate council which members won uncontested under the supervision and signatures of delegates from the Labor Ministry.

Dozens of Spinneys employees tried to hinder the elections which took place at the Lebanese Trade Union Training Center (LTUTC), by gathering outside the center and denouncing the syndicate and its council. However, the slogans raised by the employees “loyal to Spinneys administration”, did not prevent the unionists from performing their work, as the candidates won uncontested and formed the council.

For his part, former minister Charbel Nahas described this step as powerful, adding that it places a clear line separating the citizens who consider that there is a State, a law and citizens, from the ones who are ready to act like “sheep”.

The council’s members and their supporters remained detained inside the building until the protesters ended their sit-in.
