Meeting held in solidarity with Pierre Hachach

The committee charged with following up on the case of Pierre Hachach who was arrested by the Army Intelligence in Batroun, held on Friday a press conference in the presence of a number of the detainee's friends.

In this context, Rabih Salem, a member of the committee, questioned the way of the arrest and its cover-up.

Accordingly, he declared the formation of a follow up committee for every citizen who is unable to express his/her opinion freely in an effort to acknowledge the law and the articles stipulating the arrest.

LAF command responds

Later in the day, the LAF command stressed that Pierre Hachach was summoned for investigations into the stances he made which are considered harmful to the LAF institution and the morale of its members.

In a statement, the LAF said that investigations unveiled previous judicial cases against him. Hachach had tried to attack a soldier who sustained injuries on the neck, beat a member of the patrol which was trying to arrest him and incited his entourage to launch an online campaign to undermine the army’s prestige. “This is why he was kept in detention,” the statement added.

On Wednesday noon, gunmen including one in a military uniform, on board a civilian vehicle intercepted Pierre Hachach while he was walking in Batroun, and beat him until he passed out. He was then taken to the Batroun Serail. This incident took place after he wrote a status on Facebook criticizing a roundabout that holds the name of the Army Chief in Batroun which according to Hashash causes traffic jam in the city.
