REPORT: World AIDS Day, an occasion to revive awareness

The World AIDS Day witnessed the launching of awareness campaigns calling for the protection from HIV and rejecting discrimination against HIV carriers and AIDS patients. These campaigns emphasize on the fact that HIV carriers are no less human.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health chose the following slogan “Start by undergoing AIDS test; you’ll improve your knowledge and fortify your life” to celebrate this day.

During the ceremony, a movie prepared by the Health Care Association entitled “Chou Nater” (What are you waiting for) was screened. The movie was supposed to convey messages calling on the youth to protect themselves and the society by not discriminating AIDS patients and calling on those to claim their rights. But paradoxically, some of these messages came as the opposite of what they were supposed to be calling for.
