Omirou continues his visit, meets with Armenian Orthodox Catholicos Kishishian

The Cypriot Speaker Yiannakis Omirou continued on Tuesday his tour on Lebanese officials, whereby he met with Armenian Orthodox Catholicos Patriarch Aram I Kishishian at the Armenian Orthodox Church in Antelias.

Following the meeting, Omirou stressed that the relations between the Cypriot and the Armenian peoples are historical, noting that the Cypriot Parliament condemns, every year, the massacres committed by Turkey against the Armenians. He added that Cypriots were also victims of Turkish massacres.

For his part, Catholicos Kishishian stressed the importance of following up on Armenian and Cypriot coordination, especially regarding their unified and decisive position on Turkey, noting that there are many concerns and problems faced by Armenia and Cyprus regarding the churches' level.

On the other hand, Kishishian tackled the Armenian massacres committed by Turkey during the beginning of the last century.

"Turkey itself dominates a great part of Cyprus, and tries to access the Arab world as a neutral country; it is our responsibility and that of Cyprus and Greece to address this issue, here, in Armenia and abroad," he added.
