Worker throws himself under Dubai train

A worker committed suicide by throwing himself under Dubai's metro train Thursday after his sponsor denied him the right to return home, according to Gulf News.

"The 36-year-old Indian worker used a fire exit to access the track", Dubai deputy police chief General Khamis al-Mazeina said, adding that his body was unrecognizable and he was not carrying any identification papers.

It is noteworthy that under the sponsorship system for foreign workers in the United Arab Emirates, employers take possession of their passports.

This suicide is the first of its kind reported since the Dubai Metro began operations in September 2009.
