Berri, Mikati call on Shaar to return to Lebanon

Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri called the Mufti of Tripoli and the North Sheikh Malek Shaar at his residence abroad to discuss the ongoing clashes taking place in Tripoli, and asked him to reconsider his decision regarding his return to Lebanon, taking into consideration the security threats, in order to contribute to the efforts deployed to restore calm in Tripoli.

For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati also called Shaar and discussed with him the current developments, calling on him to return to Lebanon and stand by Tripoli’s residents “during this stage which needs the efforts of the wise men like him.”

Mikati stressed that the concerned security apparatuses are taking the necessary measures to secure his safety.
