Mikati: new cabinet will be formed when electoral law reached

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed on Thursday the need to hold dialogue with the participation of all concerned parties to reach a law for the upcoming parliamentary elections; once this law is reached, the cabinet will resign. "I support the formation of a new cabinet, but I will not lead the country toward political void," he said.             

Mikati noted that the cabinet secures stability and facilitates the solution of many issues, mainly the security ones in Tripoli, Sidon and Beirut Southern Suburb. He noted that during the elections, the Prime Minister's duty is to work on organizing these elections at the right time, in accordance with the constitution.                       

On the other hand, Mikati revealed that the decision of the cabinet not to hand over the security apparatuses the telecom data was based on two important matters: the people's freedom protected by the Lebanese Constitution and the law related to the tracking of communication traffic.                          

However, he said that the decision was clear and that the information will be given completely when limited to the phone numbers of those suspected.                

Commenting on Tripoli's crisis, Mikati stressed that the cabinet is doing its best to solve all the troubles, whether on the political or security levels; pointing that the only solution for Tripoli's security crisis is when the rival parties sit together on one table and reach real reconciliation.                  

"In spite of everything that have been said about my relations with the Arab countries, we cannot deny who we truly are and that we have Arab blood; in spite of all this, we blame the Arab countries for giving up on Lebanon during difficult times," Mikati said.
