Kanaan to LBCI: Initiatives from Christian parties are required

Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said on Saturday that toppling the government does not take place in the Parliament. “What is the benefit from the opposition’s boycott of the Parliament?” he asked.

In an interview with Nharkom Said, Kanaan stressed the need to activate the work of the Parliament, pointing that the house of deputies should not be closed amid Lebanon’s current situation.

On the other hand, Kanaan noted that any statement issued by a sub-committee concerning the electoral law is like “throwing dust in the eyes”, stressing that Bkerke has performed its duties in this regard, thanks to the initiative of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Rai. He added that, since Rai's initiative did not succeed in breaking the political alignment, initiatives must be taken by the Christian parties.

In this regard, Kanaan stressed that they will not adopt any strategy or equation if it does not ensure an electoral law which preserves the rights of the Christians.
