Future bloc voices rejection of proportional representation electoral law

The Future bloc announced Tuesday its rejection of the electoral law based on proportional representation “given the current control of the de facto powers over Lebanon.”      

“We will not approve any electoral law which would be contradictory to the Taif agreement or the Muslim-Christian equality,” the bloc said.     

On another note, following its weekly meeting, the bloc urged the state to take the necessary measures to combat the repercussions of the current storm which has so far caused tremendous damages. 

On the issue of Syrians and Palestinians flocking to Lebanon, the bloc condemned the "racist" statements issued against the refugees, stressing that the government should hold an Arab and international meeting to garner support for a plan to tackle the refugee file. 

“The exacerbating problem of the displaced is due to the negligence and failure of the government to take a proactive initiative.”       

The bloc also warned against the harassment some Syrian activists and opposition members are being subject to in Lebanon.
