Saudi Arabia executes Sri Lankan national convicted of strangling new-born baby

The Saudi Interior Ministry announced the execution of a Sri Lankan migrant worker in Riyadh on Wednesday after she was convicted of strangling a new-born baby in the Saudi city of al-Dawadimi, according to an official source.

The Saudi news agency quoted the Interior Ministry as saying that Sri Lankan domestic worker Rizana Nafeek killed baby Kayed Bin Nayef Bin Jiziyan al-Otaibi by strangling him following a dispute with his mother. The baby died instantly.

The Ministry confirmed that Nafeek’s execution will take place on Wednesday in the city of al-Dawadimi.

It is noteworthy that Saudi authorities had executed at least 76 people in the Kingdom during the past year.
