Houri to LBCI: ‘Sectarian voting’ is unacceptable

Future bloc MP Ammar Houri said that the Orthodox Gathering’s proposed electoral law "shocked all those who are looking for a true nation since it suggests dividing Lebanon into 18 nations”.

“Sectarian voting is unacceptable,” he added.

Houri told Nharkom Said on Wednesday that proportional representation might be an ideal option “but only in a stable society.”

“We endorse the majority system in light of the status quo and we are open to the option of smaller districts which would ease the existing fears provided that it is not based on one sect,” he said.
