Fierce clashes erupt at outskirts of Daraya

Syrian regime military units continued on Saturday their attempts to storm the city of Daraya in Reef Damascus, while fierce clashes erupted at the outskirts of the city between rebels and regime forces

Syrian activists noted that regime forces are intensively using rocket launchers, artillery and tanks, as well as air force.

However, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) resumed its attacks on a number of airports used by the regime’s helicopters to launch raids against the opposition, according to FSA and opposition websites.

In this context, Syrian activists reported that violent fights have been taking place since the early morning hours in the city of Homs, while Aleppo is witnessing sporadic clashes.

On the other hand, the General Command of the Syrian Army declared that military units implemented operations against what it described as “terrorist groups”, where it attacked locations of rocket firing and explosive manufacturing plants.

Amid these developments, the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay is still insisting on referring the Syrian crisis file to the International Criminal Court in order to launch investigations in the war crimes committed, despite the fact that the UN Security Council does not have any indicators proving such crimes.

This as, a UN delegation set off from the Syrian capital, Damascus on Saturday for a visit to the southern city of Daraa.

The group was led by John Ging, the Operations Director at the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The international team is also expected to visit Homs, as well as rural Damascus, during its four-day visit to the country.
