Rai: New electoral law must aim at restoring true democracy

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai stressed on Sunday that the new electoral law should aim neither at increasing the number of Parliament seats, nor at promoting sectarianism, but it should revive real democracy which is based on equality between Christians and Muslims.              

During his holy sermon delivered during the Sunday Mass at Bkerke, Rai noted that receiving the Syrian refugees in Lebanon is a humanitarian duty, stating however, that the Lebanese government must control the process of displacement, in a way to prevent the transfer of arms aiming at creating strife in the country.
