MP Aoun: We are ready to discuss any electoral law that provides 64 Christian deputies

Following the periodical meeting of the Change and Reform Bloc, MP Michel Aoun held a press conference whereby he discussed various developments on the Lebanese field.         

As a prelude to political statements, MP Aoun expressed gratitude to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah "who helped contain the repercussions of the Wata el-Jawz incident".                                  

As for the electoral law, MP Aoun said the competition based on the Orthodox Gathering electoral law will not be between Muslims and Christians, but among candidates belonging to the same sect.                  

On those calling the Orthodox Gathering proposal "racist", Aoun said that the word is being misused and misinterpreted, representing one favorable race over the other.              

"The term 'racism' should not be used in conjunction with our movement," Aoun said.                  

Regarding the parliamentary joint committee, MP Aoun mentioned that FPM Ministers will join in the committee's sessions which will commence tomorrow.           

"It is a crime that laws not be passed by groups choosing to boycott legislation," MP Aoun added, in reference to the Future bloc continuous boycott of governmental duties.          

Also on the electoral file, Aoun stressed that his party is open to discuss any electoral law that provides 64 Christian deputies.                

On the issue of civil marriage and Grand Mufti Mohammad Rachid Qabbani's statement, Aoun said that the latter is a Sunni Mufti, thus deeming the issue an internal Sunni debate.
