Siniora on 8th commemoration of Hariri's assassination: We reject Orthodox Gathering law

Head of the Future Bloc Fouad Sinioara delivered a speech on Wednesday on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the assassination of Former PM Rafik Hariri and his companions.

Eight years ago the person who contributed to salvaging and reconstructing Lebanon was assassinated. The assassins succeeding in destroying Hariri's body but not his presence, Siniora said on the onset of his commemoration speech.

"We will remain steadfast in our convictions, and notions of coexistence and human rights."

Siniora added that "the struggle" will continue in defense of the principles that Hariri died for.

"March 14 has held onto the Taif accord in defense of the country's sovereignty. It also won the elections twice and was capable of establishing the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. The aftermath of Hariri's assassination was difficult but the Lebanese were capable of driving the Syrian forces out of the country," he said.

"But we hold onto our convictions and hold onto our country and its unity. The Arab Spring which had a difficult path has a promising future. We haven't yielded to the Israeli enemy and we won't allow it violate our land," Siniora said.

The former PM continued: "We hold onto coexistence, democracy and freedoms, including freedom of expression, independence and the state of human rights".

On a more political note, Siniora reiterated his groups call for the elections to be held on time, "so that we can make democratic change and get rid of the party that is controlling the country and threatening its stability and development.," he said in  reference to the March8 bloc.

"We don't accept the decline that Hezbollah and the Syrian regime want. We reject the so-called Orthodox Gathering proposal and are ready to discuss any suggestion that guarantees fair representation to all the Lebanese people. We reject all that takes Lebanon backwards and contributes to targeting the social fabric," he stressed in his concluding remarks.
