REPORT: MP Fayyad's real position over Gemayel's proposal

A mistake has occurred during Wednesday evening session of parliamentary discussions, regarding the position of MP Ali Fayyad over the draft law presented by MP Sami Gemayel.

The remarks of MP Fayyad concerning the proposal of the Kataeb bloc are as follows: first, following the review of figures and necessary studies, it has been revealed that the proposal grants the Christians 53 seats, not 58. Second, the proposal does not guarantee a political balance as it ensures 63 seats for March 14 forces and 57 seats for March 8.

In this context, Fayyad told LBCI that "drafting a law based on 134 deputies is an impossible thing to do amid the current period", noting that transferring seats from one electoral district to another needs a fair examination since it violates political and confessional balances.

For his part, MP Sami Gemayel insisted on the figures mentioned in the proposal, stressing that he is open for any positive amendments following detailed discussions.
