REPORT: UCC strike affects relations between schools and parents committees

Head of Catholic schools Father Boutros Azar said that the issue of ranks and salaries series constitutes a major disaster for being presented amid inappropriate situations.

Father Boutros Azar noted, during the conference held by the parents committee at the “Antonin International School” in Ajaltoun to discuss the “series” issue, that the educational sector needs strong and fair efforts deployed by educational committees, pointing out that it also requires a comprehensive vision and properly integrated planning, as well as an accurate commitment to the state’s responsibility.

For his part, the economic expert Dr. Pierre Bou Saleh suggested a series of solutions to resolve the issue of the series approval, starting with “serious work to separate the legislation of the public educational sector from the private sector,” explaining that “the parents who register their children in private schools are settling the raise twice.”

However, Bou Saleh called for rejecting any retroactive increase, “not because of the “unconstitutionalism” of retroactive laws, but in order to achieve social justice.”

As for the parents committee, it stressed its support for the teachers, but not at the expense of the academic year.
