Bulgarians protest against poverty, corruption

Tens of thousands of people are protesting across Bulgaria against high energy bills, poverty and corruption and are demanding radical political reforms days after the government stepped down following similar gatherings.

President Rosen Plevneliev spoke to protesters in the capital, Sofia, on Sunday and offered help in solving their problems but was whistled away by the angry crowd.

Organized through social media, the protesters waved Bulgarian flags and chanted slogans against the political elite.

Their demands have radicalized in the last days turning the protests into a massive social upheaval for major political reforms.
