Rhim to LBCI: We may part ways with Sheikh Assir

A member of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Nabil Rhim stressed that a string of actions will be taken to relieve the Islamist detainees in Roumieh prison, adding that these actions will remain peaceful and civilized, without any security imbalance.

During an interview with Nharkom Said on LBCI, Rhim mentioned that slogans voiced on Sunday's sit-in are unacceptable. He quoted a leader of the security bodies as saying: " The March 14 coalition refuses to settle the Islamist detainees' file due to external commitments with Western countries, mainly the US. As for the March 8 coalition, it refuses to settle the file for sectarian reasons."

In addition, Rhim quoted some political parties as saying that during trials, facts showing that the Syrian regime is involved in the Islamist detainees' file will be unveiled.

On another note, Rhim stressed that there should be coexistence in Lebanon among the sects. "We aim at reaching an understanding and avoiding aggression. In fact, the dispute with Hezbollah and other parties is huge but we do not want to upper the ante, to take to the streets and fight each other," Rhim said.

In regards to the relation with Sheikh of the Bilal bin Rabbah Mosque Ahmad Assir, Rhim considered that the final statement delivered by Assir is a reaction for some things he faced.

"We may part ways with him in terms of his way of dealing with things but we do not advocate the presence of extra-State arms. In addition, we want to spare Lebanon the security incidents occuring in Syria and we hope that everyone's speech would not foment tension," he added.
