REPORT: Fatah Commander says Ain el Helweh clashes at a standstill

Fatah commander in Lebanon, Munir al-Maqdah, announced on Tuesday afternoon that clashes ended in the Ain el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp adding that Fatah is currently investigating the circumstances that led to it.              

Al-Maqdah added that Fatah will prevent Ain el-Hilweh from getting affected by the "plan designed for Syria's camps".             

Earlier, one person was reportedly killed while 13 were injured as clashes flared on Tuesday between the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the “Bilal Bader group” in the South Lebanon Palestinian camp, where mortar shells and machine guns were used among other heavy artillery weapons.              

The injured people were identified as Bassam Moustapha, Ibrahim Kanaan, Ali Akker, Ziad Moussa, Ghassan Abu Salem, Ziad Kakouch, Ali Khatib and Ali Koueider.            

On the other hand, a crowded march kicked off from the camp’s main street calling for the immediate end to the infighting, while the Palestinian Follow-up Committee called for withdrawing the gunmen.              

Sporadic gunshots were heard in the camp, as the clashes led to the partial burning of the house of Abdel Ghanidi, near al-Farouq Mosque in the camp's Fawqani Street.              

The violence comes on the backdrop of a bomb explosion that occurred near the PFLP office in the camp, leaving several wounded.              

On Monday, the National News Agency reported that an unknown person opened fire on Bilal Bader, a member of Jind al Sham.                

Bader's brother Kamal, a child who was identified as Omar Karoum along with a woman whose identity remains unknown, were all injured.
