Al-Jouzou: Lebanon heading into sectarian strife

The scholars of Iqlim al-Kharroub region held a meeting on Tuesday, upon the call of Dar al-Fatwa and the Islamic Group, at the residence of Mufti of Mount Lebanon Sheikh Mohammad Ali al-Jouzou, to denounce the attacks against the Sheikhs on Sunday night.           

In this context, al-Jouzou said that the state has become exposed and lost its authority, while the mentality filled with hatred and rancor is now ruling over the country.           

“Whomever belongs to an armed party is protected by its arms, and whomever does not belong to that party is at risk,” al-Jouzou added, stressing that Lebanon is being dragged into sectarian strife.           

Two sheikhs from Dar al-Fatwa, Mazen Hariri and Ahmad Fakhran were attacked on Sunday, in the region of al-Khandak al-Ghamik, while they were heading to Mohammad al-Amin Mosque.                   

The sheikhs were immediately taken to al-Makassed hospital for treatment.                   

The Lebanese Armed Forces arrested 3 persons involved in attacking the Sunni clerics.           

The attack was not only limited to the 2 Sheikh in al-Khandak al-Ghamik; reports said that 2 other clerics were attacked in the Shiyah area.               

They were identified as Sheikh Omar Imami and Shiekh Ibrahim Abdul Latif. They was transported to the Shtoura hospital after receiving first aid treatment in Beirut.
