Safadi: The pay scale does not include effective funding sources, will raise deficit

Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi said on Friday that he rejected the approved formula of the ranks and salaries series draft law, since it does not include effective funding sources and will raise the state’s deficit, adding that it is considered “unfair to the public administration employees.”

Safadi issued a statement whereby he noted that when the Parliament passes the pay scale law, the deficit will increase by around LBP 1.5 Trillion, excluding "indirect consequences".

“Is the national economy capable of bearing the implications of the series, and how will we face the growing inflation?” he asked.
