Syrian nationals injured inside Syrian territories, later transported into Lebanon

The state-run National News Agency clarified on Friday that the Syrians who were injured by an air raid carried out by regime forces last night -and who were taken into Bekaa hospitals- were injured in Syrian territories and then transported into Lebanon, noting that their injuries were not caused by the Syrian shelling on the region of Ajroum in Arsal’s mountainous region as previous reports had stated.                   

On Thursday night, five people were reportedly injured in a Syrian air raid on the outskirts of the region of Arsal, while earlier in the day the Lebanese Army Forces established a fortified post in the aforementioned border town, in anticipation of any military act that may occur from the Syrian side.          

Syrian air force jets fired four rockets on Lebanon for the first time on March 18, at a remote section of the border with Lebanon, security sources said, four days after Damascus warned it may strike at Syrian rebels taking refuge across the frontier. Syria denies these claims, saying that the attacks are coming from inside Lebanon as opposed to the Syrian territories. 

Cross-border shelling, now more frequent, have struck areas of northern and eastern Lebanon.                

The Syrian government, battling a two-year-old revolt against four decades of rule by the Assad family, has warned it may strike at Syrian rebels taking refuge across the frontier.                                       

But many citizens fear Lebanon is increasingly at risk of being dragged into the neighboring conflict, in which more than 70,000 people have been killed.
