Higher Islamic Council: Qabbani’s decisions are void

The Higher Islamic Council considered on Tuesday that all decisions issued by Qrand Mufti Mohammad Rashid Qabbani in regards to the council’s elections are null and void.

The council which held an urgent session at 5:00 pm at the council’s hall at Dar al-Fatwa under the chairmanship of deputy head of the Higher Islamic Council Omar Mesqawi asked from the General Directorate of Islamic Endowments to prepare electoral lists of Muftis and present them to the judicial committee.

The council also called for scheduling the Mufti elections on two stages; the first at a time limit before the 1st Sunday in September 2013, and the second before the 1st Sunday in October 2013.

In this regard, the council asked the Secretary General of the Council Sheikh Khaldoun Araymet to follow up on the aforementioned issues.

On another note, Sheikh Araymet said that the “members of the Islamic Council are only those who convened today”.
