Gemayel: Christians in Syria and the region face perilous reality

The leader of the Kataeb party Amin Gemayel warned on Friday of a dangerous reality facing the Christians in Syria and its neighboring region, reiterating his call on the international community to end the ongoing bloodshed, to protect the emerging democracies and to halt the persecution committed against Christians.

Speaking from Rome, Gemayel said that the dictatorships must fall one day, hoping that the humanitarian crisis taking place in Syria will soon end, and a transitional phase will begin in order to establish a democratic regime which guarantees freedom, diversity and human rights.

On bilateral relations, Gemayel said that the relations between Lebanon and Syria will not be hindered and will return to its former status, stressing that Syria must establish a democratic system which respects international relations.
