Sleiman presides over a meeting to discuss issue of Syrian refugees

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman headed on Tuesday a ministerial meeting at the Baabda Presidential Palace, in the presence of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, the concerned ministers and leaders of security apparatuses. The meeting aimed at discussing the latest developments concerning the issue of the Syrian refugees.

Earlier, President Sleiman held a meeting with Mikati where they tackled the latest developments and the general situation in the country.

The United Nations said in mid-April that the number of Syrian refugees flocking into Lebanon is estimated at 450,000, and the inflow surpasses the capacity of the country by all means.

The largest surge of Syrian refugees has been seen in North Lebanon and the Bekaa valley where their living conditions continue to deteriorate as many of them are living in overcrowded and unsanitary circumstances that are causing diseases and infections.
