Iran denounces attack on Shiite pilgrims in Iraq

The official IRNA news agency said on Saturday that Iran denounced the deadly attack in Iraq in which at least 14 Iranian Shiite pilgrims were killed.

The news agency cited the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Araqchi as saying that “Iran condemns this indiscriminate terrorist act, which is contrary to Islamic and human values."

"The Iraqi government was responsible for the lives of the Iranian pilgrims," Araqchi said.

The Iranian television said that 14 pilgrims from Iran were killed and 45 wounded on Friday when a suicide bomber drove his explosives-laden car into a bus carrying Iranian Shiite pilgrims who were on their way to visit shrines in the holy city of Najaf.
