Mount Lebanon State Prosecutor Judge Ghada Aoun commented Thursday on the lawsuit against former PM Najib Mikati on charges of unjust enrichment, stressing that she did not choose one file among others, explaining that investigations into Mikati’s file have been ongoing for over a year.
“I have other corruption files that have been referred to the judiciary,” she stated.
The judge said she felt empathy with the people and their demands, noting that she never neglected files and left them on the shelf, but she was collecting documents and when the file was completed she opened the case.
On the issue of recovering the stolen public funds, Judge Aoun pointed out that “the first demand must be to lift the immunity off the officials.”
She also noted that at the moment she does not have any files targeting the Free Patriotic Movement, stressing that when she receives information, she will open the cases; calling on all judges to open all corruption cases.
