With two health-care workers in Dallas so far infected with Ebola, after treating patient Thomas Eric Duncan, who died of the disease last week, concern arose among the nurses who are working with infected people.
Other nurses who treated Duncan say they worked for days without proper protective equipment while unsafe waste was piled to the ceiling.
While wearing a brave face to deal with the worst cases of Ebola-infected patients, many of the nurses say they are terrified of treating and catching Ebola.
According to the app Whisper, which allows to anonymously send and receive messages, a number of the users who identify themselves as nurses, reported that they are “afraid, unprotected and thinking of quitting their jobs over the possibility that Ebola may wind up in their hospitals.”
In this regard, Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the CDC said that “he has been hearing loud and clear from health-care workers from around the country that they're worried.”
"Even in the best of hospitals following all the protocol, we can minimize the risk to hospital personnel, but we can never eliminate it," added Dr. David Weber, an epidemiologist at the University of North Carolina's hospital.
