Minimize The Risk Of Heart Attacks In January With These Simple Tips

Heart attacks peak around this time of year. That’s when people eat and drink more over the holidays, and the cold weather hits.

A lot of research link low temperatures to increases in blood pressure and heart rate. Studies also show that when it’s cold, our arteries contract, which can slow down blood flow to the heart.

But making a few healthy choices can contribute to saving your life. Here are some tips:

  •  Do some warm-up exercises before heading outdoors.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and dress in layers.
  • Take frequent breaks.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Don’t eat a big meal right before doing something that requires great energy and effort, because digestion causes blood to move to your stomach.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a scarf to help warm the air as you breathe.
