Charbel: cabinet to intensify sessions to approve electoral law

Minister of Interior and Municipalities Marwan Charbel said that the cabinet is determined to discuss the parliamentary electoral draft law he submitted to the cabinet, and to approve the version on the basis of which the 2013 summer elections will take place.

“The current law is no longer suitable within the framework of a constitutional democracy”, Charbel said in a meeting held on Monday in his office with a number of MPs. He added that the cabinet has decided to intensify its sessions to study this draft law that are based on proportionality more than a year and a half before the elections date in order to pave the way for the establishment of a state based on citizenship, justice and law.
