Charbel's media office says Minister did not mediate a ceasefire between LAF, Assir

The media office of caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel denied on Wednesday all media outlets alleging that Charbel had mediated a ceasefire between the Lebanese Armed Forces' Command and the supporters of the Imam of Bilal bin Rabbah mosque Sheikh Ahmad Assir.

The office stressed that the security-ministerial meeting that was held under the chairmanship of President Michel Sleiman in Baabda had issued a decision on behalf of the LAF to "continue the battle regardless of the sacrifices," adding that Charbel is not entitled to hold negotiations with gunmen targeting the LAF.

In this regard, Charbel issued a statement whereby he stressed that the latest incidents that threatened the country by targeting the military institution should draw to an end, noting that the visit paid by Charbel to the city of Sidon aimed at supporting the army.
