March 14: Cabinet undermines Lebanon’s dignity
March 14 General Secretariat regarded the cabinet’s support for the Syrian President Bashar Assad as “disgraceful” and undermining Lebanon’s dignity and pride. The secretariat issued a statement condemning the Lebanese cabinet for defending the Syrian regime and carrying out its orders instead of improving the citizens’ livelihoods and solving their economic and social problems.

The secretariat called on PM Najib Mikati to step down, adding that such a move will be in the best interest of the Lebanese and will strengthen relations between the Lebanese and Syrian people. In the statement, read out loud by the secretariat’s coordinator Fares Soueid, March 14 welcomed the decisions issued by the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers regarding the Syrian crisis.

“When the opposition is recognized as a key partner in the upcoming period it will be a critical milestone in rebuilding Syria; broad political horizons will open before the Syrian spring”, Soueid said.

The Secretariat hoped that the Arab-Turkish meeting held today in Rabat will be key to lending the support needed for the Syrian people. March 14 called for devising a follow-up mechanism for the implementation of the latest decisions issued by the Arab League.

The statement voiced dismay for the attempt to exclude Lebanon from the Arab Spring and put the country on a collision course with the Arab and international communities.
