Rai accuses March 14, 8 of obstructing institutions’ work

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai said on Sunday that the borders must not be used to smuggle illegal weapons, stressing that the sects and political parties acquire arms to serve their own interest at the expense of the State and its institutions. He added that the politicians interfere in the general administration, the judiciary and administrative appointments, stressing the need to pass legislations separating the ministries from the parliament.

In his holy sermon delivered during the mass held in celebration of St. Charbel Day at St. Charbel Monastery in Annaya, Rai accused March 14 and 8 camps of hampering the work of the constitutional institutions, expressing his support to the formation of a new cabinet unrestricted by conditions imposed by some parties.

“The new cabinet must be neutral and capable of restoring prosperity to the economic and administrative life,” Rai said.

Patriarch Rai stressed that Lebanon’s salvation can only be achieved through political and security stability, noting that the Lebanese people’s salvation is achieved by developing the Lebanese state and serving the citizens’ interests, away from conflicts and confrontations resulting from political alignment.
