Decision to release Roula Yaacoub’s husband revoked

The accusatory body in North Lebanon issued a decision on Thursday revoking the decision to release citizen Karam Bazzi, the husband of Roula Yaacoub, hence keeping him under arrest pending further investigations.

On July 7th, a 33-year-old Lebanese woman named Roula Yaacoub was beaten to death by her husband, well-informed sources reported.

Neighbors told LBCI they heard Roula - the mother of five daughters - screaming and they tried interfering to stop a fight that was developing between the couple, but the husband refused.

Later on, the man rushed out to seek help after Roula went unconscious. Roula was rushed to the hospital. She died shortly after that.

On July 15th, member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Helo said that the parliamentary sub-committee has completed discussions regarding the draft law to protect women against domestic violence, noting that the joint committees still have to discuss it before referring it to the general authority session for ratification.
