STL president to pay first visit to Lebanon this week

STL President Judge Sir David Baragwanath will pay his first visit to Lebanon this week, accompanied by the vice prime minister and Judge Ralph Riachi.

Baragwanath’s visit will include meetings with the president, Lebanese officials working with the STL and other figures from the academic and legal community.

Baragwanath confirmed that “the tribunal judges do not only consider themselves international judges; they also consider themselves judges at the service of Lebanon applying the Lebanese Penal Code and respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and people.”

The STL president stressed that he is willing to ensure justice and speed in the tribunal work and to fully preserve the rights of the accused and the interests of the affected persons.
