Geagea calls for formation of national committee to study detainees file

Lebanese Forces’ Chief Samir Geagea said on Friday that the detainees at the Syrian prisons were held captive throughout several years, adding that they had and still are being used and exploited for political means.

During a seminar held at his residence in Mehrab, Geagea called on the families of the detainees to remain confident in the Lebanese Forces and its solidarity with their cause, calling for the formation of a national committee to study the file of the missing persons and that of the detainees in Syrian prisons.

“It is shameful that some Lebanese leaders are saying that there are no Lebanese detainees left in Syrian prisons,” Geagea added.

On another note, Geagea said that millions of Lebanese citizens are being held captive under Hezbollah's reign, pointing out that they are bearing the consequences of the party’s political actions.

In reference to the Lebanese citizen Hashem Salman who was killed on the 9th of June during a sit in held by the Lebanese Option Party before the Iranian Embassy in Bir Hassan - Beirut, Geagea said that no one is calling for the identification and the prosecution of his murderer "although pictures depicting the assailant are available."

Geagea addressed Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun by saying that both he and his allies are leading the country towards the abyss, adding that justifications regarding the file of power supply are not convincing since MP Aoun holds the majority of the governmental portfolios.
