MP Aoun: FPM seeks to immunize LAF against manipulation

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun said on Tuesday after the weekly meeting of the Change and Reform bloc that the FPM wants to immunize the Lebanese Armed Forces institution "against those who want to interfere in its hierarchy and manipulate the law."

MP Aoun slammed the attempts of "high-ranking authorities" for being behind the law's alteration, saying that "they cannot be entrusted with the constitution nor the laws."

He also described the Lebanese leaders who say that they are seeking to avoid vacuum in the military institution as "liars", adding that this issue must have been tackled via the cabinet.

The FPM leader said that the extension of the Internal Security Forces Chief's term cannot be rejected while accepting the extension of the Army Commander's term.

"Both are interrelated," he said.

MP Aoun concluded by saying that the bloc will not remain silent over any attempts to constitutional violations as a prelude to "a white coup to control constitutional powers."
