Fire erupts in Mechaha, Akkar

A huge fire erupted Friday in the town of Mechaha, Akkar, northeast Lebanon.

Civil Defense members were able to extinguish the fire, while information say that four residents remain missing.

This comes as head of Mecheha municipality Zakaria al-Zoabi urged President Michel Sleiman, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, caretaker Minister of Interior Marwan Charbel and caretaker Minister of Defense Fayez Ghosn to deploy "all possible efforts to send the Lebanese army choppers to assist in extinguishing the fire."

This as the National News Agency reported on Thursday that Lebanese army choppers were finally able to extinguish the three-day-old fire that broke out in the  Al-Sfire region and threatened nearby houses.

A fire erupted on Monday in the Al-Sfire region located on the outskirts of the Al- Danniyeh in Lebanon’s North Governorate.          

In this regard, residents of Al-Sfire called on the Lebanese Armed Forces to use helicopters to extinguish the fire since Civil Defense teams are not capable of reaching the aforementioned region.
